FAQ

1) What types of tools do you use to carve the stone?

I primarily use a Dremel tool for most of the carving, sanding and fine work. But I do have a hand grinder with a stone bit, a sawzall with stone bits, and a cutoff saw that I use to rough-out the project.

2) What type of stone do you carve?

All the stones I have carved have been Limestone of varying degrees of hardness.

3) Do you take requests?

Currently I do not. I have a backlog of projects planned. But i am not against hearing ideas.

4) Where do you get your stones?

Most of the stones I have carved or sculpted so far are taken from landscaping stones in the area. I do plan to take a weekend drive to the Lake Michigan shoreline in order to pick up some good specimens.

5) How long does it take to carve a stone?

It depends on the hardness of the stone and the size or complexity of the project stones. The AC/DC Angus Young sculpture took a bit over 12 hours all together. The John Wayne sculpture took me about 20 hours but is also my largest sculpture to date.

6) What kind of paint do you use?

I mostly use colored nail polish. But I have used natural stains, wood stain, and recently was gifted two large sets of multicolored acrylic pens which I hope to put to use.

7) What have you sculpted so far?

Not including small carvings of miscellaneous animals, mermaids, mushrooms, food items, a game piece, a skull and a clown face, the following are full sculptures to date:
